Dave Travis was born in Hollywood during the Summer of Love. When he was fourteen years old his life changed when he saw X play at the Whiskey after his first day of high school. He found a place where he belonged and became more and more involved in the LA punk scene. He started videotaping punk shows when he was 15 in 1983 and has been doing it ever since. In the 90’s he worked doing sound and editing on projects such as 1991 the Year Punk Broke, and Ready for PreSchool. Dave spent most of the first decade of the 21st Century teaching History and Economics in South Central Los Angeles. Dave later returned to video and began editing his old footage. In 2010 he released the documentary A History Lesson Part 1 punk rock in Los Angeles in 1984. A History Lesson screened accross the United States as well as in Canada and Japan. It was released on DVD in Europe and North America distributed by MVD. A History Lesson stars Redd Kross, the Meat Puppets, the Minutemen and Twisted Roots. In 2013 Dave Travis opened Cafe NELA. . Dave Travis has been playing Electric Cello in Carnage Asada since 1993.
