David McLoughlin has worked for over 20 years in the Brazilian music industry. In 1994 he helped establish Atração, building up the international catalogue (e.g. Happy Babies which went on to sell over one million units), strengthen the music publishing branch (subpublishing Rough Trade Publishing, ABC (Television) Publishing, etc), and exploiting the local catalogue abroad.
Over the next few years he worked for various local labels (Eldorado, MCD, Sum, Trama which represented international labels such as F-Com, Roadrunner, XL, Beggars Banquet, Domino, etc), as well as operating his own label (releasing such bands as Public Enemy and The Prodigy). McLoughlin also worked with world music specialist labels such as Putumayo and Rough Guide.
In 2010 he was contracted as international manager of the Brasil Music Exchange project, a platform for Brazilian independent artists and managers to make worldwide connections and as a gateway for international music professionals to work with Brazil.
Through this work he is a regular traveller throughout Brazil and Latin America, presenting workshops and seminars, meeting up with the principal players within the industry, as well as organising Brazilian participation in international trade fairs. He also organizes annual trade missions (bringing international music professionals to Brazil).
In 2014 he set up the Antena cooperative, which carries out market research within the music sector.
As well as working with new label and publisher Audio Porto, he is also organizing a new music conference which will he held in the south of Brazil. More details here
