Current Royalty Network Director and former BFM Digital President and Co-founder Steven Weber began his music industry career in London working for a small independent record label and music publishing company. Living and working as a professional musician in Asia and Europe for several years prior, the UK job introduced him to music publishing, which offered an ideal fusion of the creative and business aspects of music he was looking for. Back in the U.S., he pursued a publishing career with Bug Music, Inc., followed by a position with MusicWest Records that expanded his international perspective and experience.
Touring on a short stint as a road manager for legendary and enigmatic blues artist Ted Hawkins led to a new direction for Steven. He founded Sirius Star Entertainment, an international representation and consulting firm providing key creative and business management support for independent record companies and publishers seeking overseas access.
While retained as a consultant for Megatrax Production Music, a cutting edge promo music library, Steven established the company’s portfolio of overseas licensing and distribution deals. He also became the exclusive U.S. rep for J-Wave Music Japan, honing skills at marketing domestic artists internationally and creating sub-publishing opportunities for his US based clientele. Soon after, Steven began working with the founder of The Royalty Network, a leading music publishing administration company based in NYC. This personal and business relationship led to BFM’s strategic partnership with The Royalty Network, giving impressive power to BFM sync strategies amongst other purposeful alliances between the two companies. His 16 year relationship with The Royalty Network as their West Director continues to this day.
Steven co-founded BFM Digital (formerly known as Big Fish Media) in 2004 with his business partner, veteran music business executive Steve Corn, and together they innovated new approaches to meeting the content management, distribution, licensing, and marketing needs of over 650 content providers and more than 375,000 tracks. Representing a diverse, international catalog of indie labels, artists and publishers, BFM committed itself to serving the independent music community by delivering and marketing quality music, spoken word, video and other digital content to leading online retailers worldwide.
Ten years of successfully navigating the digital landscape led to a lucrative acquisition of BFM by The Orchard (a Sony subsidiary) in June 2014.
Steven Weber is also a co-founder of BFM Jazz, an independent jazz record label. With 11 Grammy nominations since 2007, the artists of BFM Jazz are well-established, masters of their craft who have toured and recorded with their own bands in addition to lending their prominent voices to hundreds of pop, rock, jazz and soundtrack recordings in the course of several decades. Featured artists include Steve Gadd, Tierney Sutton, Steve Smith, Patrick Williams, John Daversa, Eddie Gomez, Lenny White and many others.
